Tasmania 6 for 222 (Kruger 71, Faulkner 50*, Holland 2-31, McKay 2-61) beat Victoria 9 for 220 (Doherty 3-57, Faulkner 2-36, Krejza 2-57) by 2 runs

Xavier Doherty and James Faulkner played critical roles as Tasmania held out for a two-run victory over Victoria in the domestic limited overs match in Hobart.

Chasing 223 for victory after Faulkner and Jason Krejza bolstered the Tigers' total with an industrious stand of 57 in the final six overs, the Bushrangers always seemed destined to fall short as a succession of batsmen were unable to go on from starts.

Ultimately Jayde Herrick was required to strike Doherty's final ball for four in order to win, but could only bunt a single as the hosts survived. Victoria are now without a win in three one day matches this season.

Like Doherty a recent arrival home from South Africa, James Pattinson's late innings of 35, including two sixes, had given the Bushrangers faint hope before he was run out on the third ball of the final over.

Faulkner and Doherty shared the top four Victorian wickets on a chilly night in Hobart, while Ben Hilfenhaus bowled with swing and considerable pace despite going wicketless.

Tasmania's earlier progress with the bat was uncertain, despite a sturdy 71 from Nick Kruger. The Bushrangers' spinners Glenn Maxwell and Jon Holland kept a tight rein on the scoring until Faulkner and Krejza lifted the total to reasonable dimensions.
