Queensland 273 and 2 for 140 (Broad 72*) lead Western Australia 221 (Johnson 53, Gale 4-93, McDermott 3-36) by 192 runs
Four wickets to the 27-year-old debutant Matthew Gale helped Queensland assume control of the Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia at the WACA ground.
The Bulls bowled the Warriors out for 221 on day two before pushing on to 2 for 140 and an overall lead of 192 when bad light brought an early end to play, guided by an unbeaten 72 from Ryan Broad.
Gale's four wickets came at some cost as the WA lower order took an aggressive approach, but he, Alister McDermott and Ben Cutting combined neatly to make the most of a pitch that still offered some movement to the pacemen.
McDermott claimed Nathan Coulter-Nile with the last ball of one spell and Michael Hogan with the first of his next, but Matt Dixon played and missed the hat-trick ball. Of WA's batsmen only the wicketkeeper Michael Johnson passed 50, his maiden first-class half century in his 13th match, while Adam Voges managed 40.
