Gary Kirsten, South Africa coach, said his team should "develop strategies" on the problem of waste by losing positions to win games in the crisis - which earned him the label of "chokers" of many environments, since the draw against Australia in the 1999 World Cup semi-final.

"You must have some sort of a strategy around it," Kirsten said in an interview with weekly ESPNcricinfo. "You can not be naive to think that it is not a problem and does not exist. There were a few scars there, and it is in a long time.

"But then you need to think rationally and think smart about how you can manage this problem. I think it's something that we focus on when it comes to these events, and develop ways we can develop strategies to cross the line."

The issue has hit South Africa hard in several major tournaments including the World Cup this year as they went down to New Zealand in the quarterfinals. Kirsten, who was appointed coach of South Africa in June after a successful passage to India, leading to a victory in the World Cup, said his goal was to recreate the South African team at the top of Cricket world.

"We all believe that we are a cricket team good enough to be on top of the pile," he said. "That's where we want to head. We have to perform well on the way make sure we are competitive in every series we play. There is no doubt that there are sufficient skills and the ability of the team vying for a position at the top of world cricket. "

Kirsten also admitted his disappointment at the performance of India in England, where they were beaten 0-4 in tests and 0-3 in the ODIs. When asked about what happened to them on the tour, Kirsten said: "I'm not sure that the environment was a little sad to see how not to play well because there was not much excitement about the series England ... Also with Duncan to come as the new coach, and is there for a couple of months, you have to stamp his mark on this is going to do. I guess it was always going to be a difficult time from the beginning.

"But I was surprised. Injuries have not helped. To me they are good enough for cricket that may come back. It 'was a disappointment. Probably lost some' momentum."

Kirsten also praised England for their domination. "The England cricket team is one of quality. They are well trained, have good structure, good people, they have stability in their team and put India under pressure. I do not think they had came under pressure [from India] in the entire series. "
