The Mumbai Indians were allowed to field five foreign players in the team during the Champions League Twenty20 games, because a number of Indian players have been hit by a tournament-ending injury. However, all the foreign players have had reduced them to play in IPL 2011. Mumbai is the first six players chosen, including the captain Sachin Tendulkar, and an even stronger team includes seven Indian and seven foreign players.

IPL teams are allowed only four players in the country and abroad during his CLT20 XIS.

Apart from Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Munaf Patel, Ali Murtaza, Dhawal Kulkarni Suryakumar Yadav and were excluded from the competition. The Board includes President N Srinivasan CLT20 BCCI, former president Amin Chirayu IPL, Niranjan Shah BCCI vice-president, Gerald Majola Cricket South Africa Cricket Australia chief James Sutherland and CA chief officer Dean Kino.
