AB de Villiers has excluded the rest of the Twenty20 Champions League after breaking a finger on his left hand during a training session in Bangalore Royal Challengers at Chinnaswamy Stadium. The injury could force Villiers miss the start of the tour of Australia, South Africa, which starts with a Twenty20 international on 13 October.

"He [de Villiers] is likely to return to South Africa tonight," South Africa team manager Mohammad Moosajee ESPNcricinfo said. "He wants to see our panel of experts gradually after that, and we will decide that the action is.

"I understand that the physical therapist in Bangalore, broke the third finger of his left hand during fielding drills. It 'bad enough, it's coming back."

The series at home against Australia will be the first de Villiers, after taking over as captain Limited of South Africa Graeme Smith off South Africa in June to play the first of two Twenty20 against Australia on October 13, followed by three one dayers from October 19.
