Pakistan Twenty20 domestic competition, Faysal Bank National T20 has been moved from Lahore to Karachi because of the ongoing outbreak of dengue in the province of Punjab. More than 7,000 people have been affected since the disease broke out in August.
There was speculation increasingly in recent weeks that the tournament would be moved, and after a meeting between the PCB and Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, it was decided to move the tournament after a directive from the President himself Wednesday.
The tournament of 14 teams is scheduled for September 25 to October 2 at the National Stadium in Karachi. The event was moved to Lahore after the place of origin, in Rawalpindi, was deemed unfit to host the event. Last year's tournament was held in Lahore Lions and Lahore have been winners.
The Twenty20 tournament will include 14 pages, as opposed to 13 last year, a team of Afghanistan participate in the tournament for the first time, which means that teams will battle for first place in the four groups in order to qualify for the semi-finals.
Other participants are the Karachi Dolphins, Karachi Zebras, Lahore Lions, Lahore Eagles, Sialkot Stallions, Islamabad Leopards Falcons Abbotabad, Rawalpindi Rams, Multan Tigers, Bears, Quetta, Faisalabad Wolves, Peshawar, Hyderabad Hawks and Panthers.
