Brydon Coverdale Report

September 16, 2011

Lunch for 63 in Australia 2 (26 * Marsh, Ponting 25 *) v Sri Lanka

Shaminder Erang took a wicket with his first ball of Test cricket as Sri Lanka made two breakthroughs in the first session of the SSC, where they needed to win to avoid losing the series. Australia has lost two of their openers in the top ten reports of game, but Shaun Marsh and Ricky Ponting stabilized sleeves and lunch, they had guided Australia to 63 for 2 people.

Tillakaratne Dilshan would have liked at least one other stop this phase, after he took the surprising decision to send Australia in an area where it is intended to provide some early seam movement due to rain and flight game. He was the 12th once the captain had sent the opposition in the CSE, but only twice this decision led to a victory both times against Bangladesh.

The first signs of Sri Lanka have been good, with Suranga Lakmal removing Phillip Hughes for a second ball duck in the second course. Lakmal angled the ball across the left and recovering just a fraction of the seam. The ball is trapped inside the edge of BAT as Hughes attempted to defend himself away from his body, and stumps were shattered by a bullet, he will have left.

Hughes was a disappointing effort, which is seen as a long-term options for opening partner Shane Watson, but did not reach the 51 of his last ten innings of the test. Watson is also experiencing a lean patch atypical, and that continued when 8, drove hard to the end, ERANGE wide delivery and was a general property of point back.

It was a moment of joy to ERANGE, who became the second citizen of Sri Lanka to make a window with his first ball of Test cricket after Chamila Gamage in 2002, and the second man to accomplish the feat in this series after Aussie Nathan Lyon. ERANGE The inclusion was part of a series of changes in the Sri Lanka line-up for this test.

Left arm spinner, Rangana Herath, was added after missing the Pallekele test due to an injury on his finger, and Sri Lanka went to sewing heavier attack by dropping a call, and Suraj Prasanna Randiv Seekkuge. They also stopped the veteran batsman Thilan Samaraweera Lahiru Thirimanne and carried, that pops up when Dilshan drops to No. 5.

In fact, both captains are in BAT decision to No. 5 after leaving Marsh Clarke No.3 Pallekele century after its debut. This meant that Ponting, back to the team after missing the second test, the birth of his daughter was sent to No. 4 for the first time in his career as a night watchman tries to lock the first beat drop situations.

In any case, Marsh and Ponting both in the paddock during the ninth, and played by carefully following the two early wickets. As he had in Pallekele, Marsh began slowly and leaves a lot of deliveries, but it also works when possible, and a square cut for four burned out Lakmal was exquisite.

Ponting also took a bad deliveries, driving Chanaka Welegedara for consecutive boundaries through the bridge, when the bowler strayed too crowded. Welegedara was convinced he had Ponting caught behind the inside edge of the 6, but the challenge Aleem Dar's decision was error: there was clear span between bat and ball.

At lunch, Marsh was on 26 and Ponting had 25, and the couple has done well to go through the breakdown of the wet conditions. Sri Lanka needs a pair of earrings just after lunch to justify the drawing Dilshan.
