Queensland 5 for 153 (Burns 58*, White 3-27) trail Victoria 7 for 498 dec (Hussey 130, Quiney 87, McDonald 76, Maxwell 65, Rogers 62) by 345 runs

Cameron White revived his bowling career to put Victoria in a commanding position after two days at the MCG. After David Hussey's 130 pushed the Bushrangers to 7 for 498 declared, White collected three wickets and the fast bowler Jayde Herrick picked up two as Queensland struggled to match Victoria's powerful batting display.

At the close, the Bulls were 5 for 153 and the follow-on was a distinct possibility, with Joe Burns (58 not out) the key, having been joined by Chris Hartley, who was on 2. White's legspin had accounted for Peter Forrest, who was caught at short leg for 37, Chris Lynn, who was bowled for a duck, and Nathan Reardon, who was taken at slip for 9.

He finished the day with 3 for 27, his best first-class bowling figures since before the four Test matches he played as a frontline bowler in India in 2008. Herrick had got rid of both openers and it was a fine start for Victoria after their big innings with the bat.

Queensland missed Ben Cutting, who suffered a side strain and was sent for scans, and will not bowl again in the game. Hussey made 130 and some late runs from Andrew McDonald (76) and Glenn Maxwell pushed the Bushrangers towards 500, White's declaration coming when Maxwell was caught for 65.
