Offspinner Harbhajan Singh, who was dismissed from the team in India for the first two ODIs of the series of five home matches against England, was appointed captain of India for green NCPs Salve Challenger Trophy. Gautam Gambhir, who is back in action after the concussion he suffered in England, will lead India Red, while the Tamil Nadu batsman Badrinath S will captain India Blue.

The tournament will consist of three round-robin games and a final, and will be played from 10 October 13 at Nagpur. The first ODI against England the next day in Hyderabad, a game that Gambhir is scheduled to play in.
