Stewart, the former English cricketer, believes England’s has all the potential to dominate Test cricket for the foreseeable future and replicate what Steve Waugh’s Australian side did in Tests.

The former cricketer commended English players for attaining the number one status in International Cricket Council’s (ICC) test rankings and states that it is all because of the hard work they have put in their game.

Hoping that England will keep the winning momentum going for the next decade or so, Stewart said, “The lads have earned the right, they’ve put in the hard work and are now reaping the rewards of that work. One of the big things about this England side and the team around them is their attention to detail, they work really hard on all aspects of the game and that shows in their performances which have been outstanding,”

“Everything is now in place for them to dominate for the foreseeable future, they have quality players in the side as well as good young players coming through. If you think of the Australia side under Steve Waugh, they dominated for a dozen years and this side will want to replicate that kind of success and domination and I think they are capable of doing so,” he added.

The wicket-keeper batsman asserts that the stage is set for English dominance as they have a great squad in place and the players coming up the ranks are of high quality as well.

The former skipper of England took up commentary after taking retirement from his 13 years long career, and is currently a member of the ICC World Cricket Committee. Stewart is very fond of Test cricket nd deems that the standard of the longest version at present is simply outstanding.

“I think the standard of Test cricket is quite outstanding. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about the people who are, or are not, walking through the gate.”

“In England we fill the grounds out; one reason is the capacities are around 20,000 and also the fact that we’re the best side in the world means our supporters want to go and watch us. But for the moment it certainly will survive because if you ask any current player or former player they’d much rather play in front of a full house than one that’s only a third full or so,” he expressed.
