skipper, Sourav Ganguly, has trounced Vinod Kambli, for his stunning claim that the semi-final game of ICC World Cup 1996 between India and Sri Lanka was rigged.

Ganguly has termed the allegations to be illogical, baseless and late, wondering that if Kambli had something in his mind, why didn’t he outpoured this issue in the past. He opines that it does not make any sense to come up and blame anyone after a lapse of 15 years.

Ganguly has challenged Kambli to provide solid evidences in order to prove his claims which may ignite a new controversy in International cricket.

Talking to the media, Ganguly said, “This is a big allegation. He should come out with a proof. I want to know why he took 15 years to talk about it. If he has proof let him come out with it. Just because India batted second in the semifinal and lost the match, it doesn’t mean that it was fixed.”

Kambli, during a TV debate yesterday, raised suspicion on the crucial game of the 1996 World Cup event, saying that it was fixed, and also asserted that his International career was destroyed by that fixing as the manipulated situation did not let him score freely.

He told, “I will never forget the 1996 match because my career ended after this and I was dropped from the team. I was stunned by India’s decision to field. I was standing on one side and on the other end my fellow batsman was telling me that we would chase the target. I don’t know what transpired.”

Some analysts fear that Vinod’s fiery remarks may provoke the world cricket authorities to probe into the matter.
