Graeme Wood, the former Australia Test batsman, has resigned as chief executive officer of the WACA. Wood has taken up a position in the wine industry, which also means he won't be in the running for Cricket Australia's newly-created role as general manager of team performance, a job that would seem to suit administrators with a strong cricket background.

Wood will remain in his position with Western Australia until the end of the year, was director in February 2007. He said it was disappointing to leave the stage while continuing uncertainty of cricket on the redevelopment of the WACA ground floor, but he decided it was time to move.

"I was interviewed for this paper Wine Estates Hacienda and had enjoyed working in the alcohol industry," says Wood. "It will also be a major life change for me and my family and was an important factor in my decision to take this new position.

"It was a great pleasure to be involved in an exciting five years WACA. Right now there have been results such as improved facilities for personnel engaged in a restructuring of our operations, cricket, business partnership with Murdoch University to develop a new training center, enjoying positive relationships with regulatory authorities such as the EPRA redevelopment of the WACA ground floor, two coaches and ensure world-renowned for the Retravision Warriors by Tom Moody and Mickey Arthur.

"I always had an excellent relationship with the WACA President Dennis Lillee and President David Williams, as well as senior management and staff of the WACA and I thank everyone for the support they have given me over the years. It is also a disappointing moment to leave the WACA with uncertainty about the release date for our reconstruction and the Scorchers debut in Perth KFC T20 Big Bash League this summer, but I wish all the best in WACA opportunities in the future. "

Wood, 54, has played 59 tests for Australia in 1970 and '80. WACA Board of Directors will now begin its search for a new CEO.
