Petersen spent the winter in southern Africa Glamorgan captain of the county and it was his run scorer with over 1,000 runs in first class cricket. In all formats, which scored over 2000 runs, becoming the sixth player to accomplish this feat for the side of Wales. The performance of authority in the first game of the South African domestic season seems to be tracking his work in Glamorgan.
"It was a good challenge to go to my first year and the captain of a county," he said. "There was enormous pressure and wanted to keep going." Like many other South Africans, Petersen said his stay in England had taught him more about cricket and can take these lessons in the international arena. "I learned a lot about my game. Because there is no practice time, you have to learn in the games and learned to make long runs under pressure and how to score some runs when they have a clear" he said.
Petersen's stint in England at the same time, the Sri Lanka tour there, and took the opportunity to pick up tips on how to act when they visited South Africa three tests by the end of the year. "I looked at what kind of attacks go, because the English and South African conditions, are not the same thing, but are similar in terms of moving the ball," he said. "I'm sure, when Sri Lanka will have some of the most green for their wickets, as England had. I had a look at their strategies, as these things go, and any combination of bowling and I built my own idea sort how I want to go forward. "
He was on the land more sports in South Africa Petersen has been criticized for not being able to push last season against India. After a solid 77 at Centurion, he has not scored more than 26 in four sets and began to be considered a weak link. However, Petersen was not disappointed by his effort, since the conditions.
"Our plan has always been to get green wickets against India in South Africa and makes the job of a starter, but a little tricky, so myself and Graeme [Smith] had to deal with really difficult," he he said. "He did not score in this series is going on. It was hard work." Smith scored 143 runs in three games, while Petersen managed 170 and the pair shared a century partnership and two half-century.
In the same way as hostile bands can be expected this summer, Petersen is ready to give more if it shows the Wanderers are anything to go by. On a green top, the ball moves significantly Petersen saw the first session with Stephen Cook and when he drove to safety, cashed in. His sleeves showed the value of experience, something he wants to the international game.
He is determined to continue with the opening and the sight of Smith, the two form a complementary pair, not only because of their left-right combination. "Graeme is so offensive and so often that you can paste a forward and a guy who is stable and does not work because you can not put pressure on the players as a unit," he said. "I think Graeme and do well. We showed against Pakistan, where there was an association of over 150 and took the game to be played freely average after that."
