LAHORE: While admitting that the upcoming series against Sri Lanka will be tough, Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq and interim coach Mohsin Khan claimed on Thursday that their team is well-balanced and fully capable of performing well.

The team will leave for Dubai on Saturday morning to take part in the series featuring three Tests, five One-day Internationals and one-off Twenty20.

Talking to media at the conclusion of the training camp at the Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday, Misbah said that the series will be tough, but his team is balanced in all departments.

The conditions in the UAE are conducive to batting due to which the Pakistan bowlers will have to play their due role to get the Sri Lankans out twice, he commented.

“We have a good bowling attack both in fast and spin departments as Umar Gul and Wahab Riaz have given fine performances while upcoming Aizaz Cheema has also proved himself,” the captain said, adding that the likes of Saeed Ajmal and Abdul Rehman could also cause a stir.

Without making predictions about Pakistan’s chances of victory against Sri Lanka, the skipper vowed that his men will give their best to earn success.

He said the camp was set up just to gel the players as most of them have done enough practice by taking part in the first round of the ongoing four-day Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match.

Asked if Pakistan would be in a better position to win, particularly in the absence of Sri Lanka’s two key bowlers — Muttiah Muralitharan and Lasith Malinga — Misbah said that though they were dangerous, no team depended entirely on any individual.

About implementation of the Umpire Decision Referral System (UDRS) in the series, he said it would help both teams, which is good to avoid any controversy.

“Our bowlers have recently learnt several finer points from Waqar Younis and Aaqib Javed and now the batsmen would get tips from Mohsin and Ijaz Ahmed to remove their shortcomings,” he contended.

Also, Mohsin said though Sri Lanka were a competitive side, the main objective of his team was only to win the series by giving fine performances in all the departments.

Mohsin said as he himself remained an experienced batsman he knew strong and weak points of bowlers, arguing that he is not facing any problem in coaching bowlers, too.

He said Pakistan’s batsmen are talented, although they do have some minor faults, which would be removed soon.

Terming good fielding pivotal for win, he said boys will have to show improvement in the important department of the game.

“I have nothing against anyone in the team,” Mohsin said. “Though captain and coach are two different posts, we both will try to work together with other senior players to win the series.”
