Cricket Australia will announce the new national selector this afternoon, ending Andrew Hilditch's tenure at the helm of the selection panel. On a day of change for Australian cricket, the former Test batsman Wally Edwards was elected as the new chairman of Cricket Australia, the first former player to take the job since Don Bradman.
But while Edwards could have a short stay in the job, if the ongoing review into the governance of Cricket Australia recommends an independent commission, the new selector will definitely shape Australia's on-field future over the coming years.
Early candidates for the role included Rod Marsh, Tom Moody and Trevor Hohns, who preceded Hilditch as chairman of selectors. The announcement will be made in Perth at 12.30pm local time (3.30pm AEDT).
