David Warner is convinced that it is much better prepared for the one-day international cricket than it was last played for Australia for two years. Warner was selected in the ODI team take on South Africa in October and could be auditioning for a long-term role in the side, as they embark on the road throughout the World Cup 2015, while also expected to could be a springboard for test cricket.
He played last ODI cricket in a single match against Scotland in August 2009 after six appearances earlier this year at home during the summer. Warner did not include his one-day options, and by his own admission a hard time adjusting to the Twenty20 format 50-plus, but now has changed so much that he was a player in the team before test during the recent series in Sri Lanka.
"I'm definitely more mature this time," Warner said, after being informed of his call to arms in India during the New South Wales played in the Champions League. "I know what to do and I know what to expect. I know that the opposition that we are coming and I know exactly what would have been greeted with Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn. I just go there and play as a game and I hope to score some runs.
"Then [in 2009] ... I thought that I had to go out there and play like I did Twenty20, as I did the debut went so quickly Now I know what one-day cricket is all: Set .. tone controls at the beginning and try to make your way to the end of sweaters that I have learned a lot. In recent years, talks about the likes of Michael Clarke and Shane Watson, about one day cricket has helped me a lot. "
Warner's recent form has been described by the chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch out as "irresistible" and it is difficult to disagree. After completion of the Sheffield Shield season with a century in Perth, he headed to Zimbabwe with Australia A and is 152 in a training match, in a 120 games a day and 211 in a first class match.
"It was a pleasure for me to get selected for Australia A in the substance of four days as well, and put runs on the board there was a great opportunity for me to show the voters what I can do and show everyone that I 'm not just a specialist T20. I am willing to take this opportunity to one-dayers and Twenty20 and score more runs, and hopefully get a spot test in the near future. "
Australians head to South Africa in early October, before two Twenty20 and three one-day internationals. The team for the two following tests in November will be announced in the coming weeks.
