Glen Chapple, limping Lancashire captain, sees a bright future for the province after he ended 77 years of waiting for the county championship. Victory against Somerset, Warwickshire and the inability to beat Hampshire, brought a dramatic finish the season the team had been tipped to fall in battle.

Most of the team born and raised in both Lancashire and the surrounding areas and the county made the best use of available talent, who realized they would not be able to invest in people. Chapple now believe the likes of Charles Brown, Tom Smith, Simon Kerrigan and Luke Proctor - not yet known names - can form the nucleus of a successful side for many years to come.

"We are basically a young team, with only a couple of old guys like me to stick, and how the team has been glued to it is very encouraging for the future," he said. 'Championship trophy is very difficult to win, but we kept a cool head and our faith. Success breeds success factors, so hopefully we have put into something that serves Lancashire cricket well in the coming years.

"When I was young, I had the opportunity to join a great team of Lancashire and won four trophies in no time. Never forget these early successes and our young players have won the trophy greatest of all. These children may be small , but demonstrated how difficult it is tough. Winning the title could not be sweeter, but do it with a group of players who were discharged early in the season is even better.

"There were so many highlights during the season," he added. "Beat Yorkshire twice in close games stand out, but I could not think of many more if I really tried. The guys were excellent. "

However, the league would not have won without the efforts of Chapple. In the penultimate meeting, made a crucial 97 against Hampshire, then bowled through the pain of a bad hamstring injury Taunton take two crucial wickets on the last day.

"I had started the first day, but you can not play with a broken leg and I am only human, so we'll see what the analysis shows," he said. "I could not care less what he shows now. Crédit our physiotherapist, strapping some decent and some tablets for me to pass."

Brown, a drummer of 23 years, was at the end of the non-striker when Steven Croft hit the ski champion and spoke on the belief that the team and hard work. "I do not think any team has worked harder than us to get where we are," he said.

"After a few games this season, we certainly thought we could win the title. We went there to enjoy our cricket, knowing that there would be pressure on days like we had against Somerset. Peter Moores says you have to embrace the pressure, and you play cricket for several days like today. I'm sure we can put together a few seasons now and I hope we will win the title again in the near future. "
