Jonny Bairstow, who makes his debut for England hook against India in the final ODI in Cardiff was named cricketer Cricket Club young writers' of the year for 2011. Bairstow, 21, received the award at the luncheon club of the 65th anniversary of the Lord just three days after his unbeaten 41 only 21 balls helped England to a six-wicket victory.

Show-stopping debut Bairstow ended a memorable season in which he scored 1213 runs in the first class 48.52 of Yorkshire and England Lions - the conversion of his maiden century against Nottinghamshire in May, the first of three this Summer, 205. He raised nearly twice the votes of the runner-up Chris Woakes.

Also won the Hampshire spinner Danny Briggs, who was named in England Twenty20 squad to face the West Indies later this week, and Leicestershire, James Taylor, the 2009 winner of the prize.

Bairstow plans for England - and unnerved her debut hit show strong - has created a fierce competition for limited places for acquisitions in the middle of the order. While he may struggle to take their place, especially when Eoin Morgan and Kevin Pietersen to return, Bairstow has attracted praise from both his coach and captain of pounds to start an international career.

"I do not remember his debut," said England coach Andy Flower. "It 'was very clean and powerful hitting. Not many people can hit it clean. Not many people are that talented. He is very proud of their performance, and it's great to impress the International Cricket now, but let's all keep level leaders. Talk is cheap, but it did effect, and he constantly asked to repeat the performance in half, when the pressure is on. "

"What a great way to make an international statement," said the captain one day Alastair Cook, himself a former winner of the young cricket debut Bairstow after knock. "I think we have to find a player. I do not want to raise too much pressure on him, but to make your debut as this and go out and play in such control, but was positively amazing. The boys looked around the locker room saying we have just found one. All credit to Jonny. It's never always going to be plain sailing, but it looks like an outstanding prospect. "

Bairstow, whose father David was a former wicketkeeper in England itself, is the Yorkshire ninth to win the prize Young Cricketer - after Fred Trueman (1952), Phil Sharpe (1962), Geoff Boycott (1963), Chris Old (1970), Ashley Metcalfe (joint winner, 1986), Richard Blakey (1987), Chris Silverwood (1996) and Adil Rashid (2007). This is the 62nd year the award is limited to England qualified players under 23 years on 1 May were presented.
