Graeme Swann has been declared fit for third Test against India at Edgbaston after the coup that took his left hand in Nottingham. Swann was beaten by the ball which dismissed him in the first inning of Praveen Kumar and hampered the rest of the game.

Swann continued to get one of his least effective trials, finishing with match figures of any of from 97 to 15 overs as England romped to a 319-run victory. After the match, he had a deeper study of the damage, but all results came back clear, although it is still in some pain.

"I had a second x-ray of the hand just to check, and is not serious," he told Sky Sports News. "It 'a little' problems there, but no effect on my preparation. It could affect my line networks in advance, but only prevents me a bouncer in front of some of our guys."

Swann played only a supporting role in the series to date have been important to the Lord, where he tied one end, the fast bowlers to attack. But with the last two matches at Edgbaston and the Oval, places that can offer assistance to the spinners, it could play a crucial role as England aim to secure the series and the No. 1 spot.

England concern other injuries revolves around Jonathan Trott, who injured his left shoulder while diving mid-off on the second day. It is understood that Trott has shown a promising recovery in recent days, and can still be transmitted to its own model of home testing-ground. He will face further evaluation before the squad is named on Saturday morning.

The hosts face a dilemma when all players the choice of the injured are in a position, because Tim Bresnan, who took career best 5 for 48 to secure victory at Trent Bridge to take the 90, only played Chris Tremlett took as a hamstring strain and suffered a back spasm. Tremlett has been offset by Surrey and Bresnan recovery means may be reduced despite their fine performance.
