Victoria 6 for 299 (Wade 86*, Rogers 54, Doherty 2-35) v Tasmania

Matthew Wade gave substance to Victoria's innings after the earlier batsmen had squandered a series of starts against Tasmania on day one of the Sheffield Shield match in Hobart.

The Bushrangers reached 6 for 299 at the close, a better position than the 6 for 220 they had slipped to before Wade and Clint McKay batted purposefully in the final hour.

Chris Rogers, Aaron Finch, David Hussey and Cameron White were all guilty of losing their wicket after making a start, as the Tigers bowled methodically on a pitch that offered a little to both batsmen and bowlers.

Xavier Doherty delivered with typical economy, while Evan Gulbis showed his bustling medium fast could be useful at first-class level with the wickets of Finch and Hussey.

James Faulkner also snaffled two wickets, and the new ball duo of Ben Hilfenhaus and Luke Butterworth bowled better than their figures suggested.
