South Australia 2 for 98 (Klinger 49*) v New South Wales 6 for 474 declared (Warner 148, Smith 106, Maddinson 92, Rohrer 83, George 3-126)
New South Wales accelerated to an imposing 6 for 474 declared and South Australia had shuffled to 2 for 98 in reply when rain brought an early end to day two of the Sheffield Shield match at Bankstown Oval in Sydney.
Steve Smith cracked an enterprising century and Ben Rohrer spanked 83 from 87 balls before the Blues declared, their cause helped when SA lost the left-arm swing bowler Gary Putland to a hamstring tear. Putland was injured in the act of bowling Simon Katich for 16, leaving Rohrer and Smith to add 145.
Peter George did not add to his three wickets on the first day, while the legspinner Cullen Bailey took the other two to fall on day two.
SA's reply was off to an unsteady start when the debutant Ben Dougall was lbw to Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood claimed Callum Ferguson for the second time in as many matches when he pinned SA's vice-captain on the crease.
The Redbacks' captain Michael Klinger and Tom Cooper took the visitors to tea, when heavy rain curtailed the chance of any further play.
