stand-in skipper, Virender Sehwag, is happy to be back and leading the Indian side and showed his confidence about his young team’s ability to achieve good results in the upcoming ODI series against West Indies.

“Yes, I am happy to be back. I had a shoulder surgery and it took a long time for me to recover and return to the game,” Sehwag said on the eve of the series opener at Cuttack on Tuesday, November 29, 2011.

Team India will take on the Windies without some key players such as Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh, but the captain sees omission of the seniors as a great opportunity for new faces to show their potential at the big stage.

However, despite the absence of a few important players, Sehwag asked the Windies not to consider the Men in Blue as a vulnerable side, as the youngsters are determined to give their best shot.

“All the players are in fine form, having scored good amount of runs in Ranji Trophy. It’s a good sign for Team India. Hope the youngsters play the same way with Team India. We have a very good young side. It’s good for youngsters they are getting opportunities. They have five games to show their skills,”

The skipper cited the recent Test series victory as a massive morale booster for his teammates, and made it clear that there will no added pressure on the guys when they meet the Caribbean Kings in the One-Dayers. He also lauded his young bowling attack, and described that the boys are doing a wonderful job with the ball under Eric Simmons coaching.

“We are playing for the last 12 years. Cricket is same. Everything is same. It’s just another series for us. We are playing so well. We won ODI series against England and Test series against the West Indies. Team India are playing well, so I’m looking forward to the series,” added Sehwag who will be leading India on the eighth occasion in the 50-over format of the sport.

Sehwag also encourage the young Indian pacers Varun Aaron and Umesh Yadav. “They are very good bowlers and are on the right track. However, they have a lot to learn and I feel they are in good hands under our bowling coach Eric Simons,” Sehwag said.

Backing up his spinners to continue to do the good work in the ODI series, Sehwag said, “India have always done well in the spin department. In the past, Harbhajan Singh and Anil bhai did a brilliant job for the country. Now we have got a new pair in Ojha and Ashwin in the Test series. Here too, we have Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Sharma and Ashwin. I hope they will do well.”

Predicting about the result of the ODI series Sehwag said, “It’s difficult to predict results in ODI series. But I can assure you that we will give our 100 per cent. If we do that, the results will follow.”
