Praveen Kumar, the India medium-pacer, has been ruled out of the first three one-day internationals against West Indies because of a chest injury. He has been replaced by the Karnataka fast bowler Abhimanyu Mithun.

Praveen had been ruled out of the 2011 World Cup due to a tennis-elbow injury. It is understood he suffered some pain after the Twenty20 international match against England on October 29 and requested the BCCI for a two-week break. He then played the Ranji Trophy match for Uttar Pradesh against Saurashtra in Meerut. He had also sustained an ankle injury during the Test series in England.

In Praveen's absence, Varun Aaron, Vinay Kumar, Umesh Yadav and Mithun are the fast-bowling options in India's squad. Praveen was not part of the squad for the three Tests against West Indies.
