Pubudu Dassanayake, former Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batsman has succeeded another cricketer from Sri Lanka, former, Roy Diaz, coach of cricket in Nepal. Dassanayake, who called level III coach of Australia, began working with Nepal from October 1.
"It 'was during the Games that the Cricket Association of Nepal, and exchanged a few e-mails," said Dassanayake. "I expressed my interest in taking on the role of head coach.
"I heard a lot of good things about cricket by the Nepalese Rumesh Ratnayake, who is the Asia Cricket Council Development [ACC], Sri Lanka and the rest of my colleagues. They said, Nepalese cricket has the potential to reach another level . Nepal is a young and talented player who finished second in less than 19 years at the World Cup qualifiers in August. "
Dassanayake represented Sri Lanka in 11 Tests and 16 ODIs between 1993 and 1994 before moving to Canada in 2001. He represented Canada in the World Cup qualifier in Ireland in 2005 and the year after the captain them in the Intercontinental Cup. He took as head coach for the Canadian National in 2007 and helped them secure a place in the 2011 World Cup, before deciding not to renew his contract with them.
Dassanayake my first job against the ACC Twenty20 Cup in Nepal, which is hosted by Nepal in the month of December.
