Dinesh Chandimal recalled in the test team in Sri Lanka for the series against Pakistan in the UAE and is one of the four batters wicketkeeper-in the group of 16 men. Middle order batsman Samaraweera Thila, 34 Ajantha Mendis and the cone are the major omissions from the team that lost 1-0 to Australia at home, while Prasanna Seekkuge legspinner also left out.
"Thilan of reckoning does not come to our long-term plans," Duleep Mendis, chairman of selectors, said. "We're going to give them a chance, when older people are around. He can be seen in the short term."
In addition, Chandimal, which was part of the Test team in England this summer, but not their debut, fast bowler Pradeep Nuwa wicketkeeper-batsman and the second Kaushal Silva was the other two rookies named his side. Chandimal played 12 ODIs and seven Twenty20s, however, and is currently represented by Ruhuna Champions League Twenty20 in India. Neither Silva nor Pradeep no caps.
Samaraweera scored just 86 runs at an average of 21.50 in tests of the first two at home against Australia and was eliminated by the third party in the South-South cooperation. Sri Lanka set to its absence, Tillakaratne Dilshan Captain batters in order, while an open environment with Lahiru Tharanga Thirimanne Paranavitana. Dilshan is likely to continue in the batting order of the environment.
Mendis has not played any Test against Australia because of back injury suffered before the ODI series, and remained outside the selection. Prasanna made his debut in the second test Pallekele 0 80 and took the match.
Team included five fast bowlers Chanaka Welegedara, Suranga Lakmal, Dammika Prasad and Pradeep Shaminda ERANGE, and only two specialist spinners - Rangana Herath and Suraj Randiv. Angelo Mathews was chosen as the batter was not yet being in a bowl.
"Angelo went to Australia for treatment of his left knee, and we will not risk him bowling in the series," said Mendis.
Sri Lanka play three Tests against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah from October 18.
