Former drummer Dave Houghton in Zimbabwe is back in Derbyshire batting coach. Houghton, 54, became the director of county cricket between 2003 and 2007 and also had coaching roles with Worcestershire and Zimbabwe.
"David is a world of premium economy class batting," said head coach Karl Krikke. "His knowledge and experience will be very beneficial to all our batsmen as he was that international players in the set-up during periods of coaching with the ECB. "
"Obviously, David's extensive experience and success in the game will be an important asset for any club, especially our drummer," said President Chris Grant.
Houghton was offered the role of director of cricket at Derbyshire in 2003, after having cemented its reputation as a good leader at a time as coach with Worcestershire in mid-1990. It is also the uncle of Yorkshire batsman Gary Ballance, who arrived in the English cricket with Derbyshire, where Houghton was in charge.
Left office in Derbyshire in July 2007, Don Amott - who was president of the county at the time - said that the separation was amicable.
Houghton has played 22 tests and 63 one-day international for his country, was their captain, the first test and holds the record for the highest score with 266 tests against Sri Lanka in 1994. Also represented in hockey as a goalie.
