Geoff Marsh, the former drummer of the Australia coach, has been appointed coach of Sri Lanka, to fill the vacancy created by the departure of Trevor Bayliss after the 2011 World Cup. Marsh two-year period beginning September 27 and it will not continue coaching Pune Warriors IPL franchise.

"I said in Pune Warriors, and they were very good about it. Coaching an international team takes a long time and can be adapted is just not going to happen," Marsh, who was with me in Pune during the IPL from 2011 said ESPNcricinfo. "They are very comfortable. Godo Warriors in Pune. It is a great family. They saw that coaching an international team is honored, all was good."

Marsh had been in talks with the Sri Lanka cricket when he was in the country in the recent tour of Australia. His appointment ends a period of unrest in the output of Bayliss in Sri Lanka following coaching. Stuart Law, who was assistant Bayliss, took over for the tour of England before leaving for Bangladesh coach. Rumesh Ratnayake was responsible for part of Sri Lanka for the home series against Australia.

Marsh played 50 tests and 119 ODIs for Australia, and was a member of the team winning the World Cup in 1987. After retirement, he became a Level 3 qualified coach, and has been at the helm of the Australian side of 1995-1999, when he became the first - and so far the only - player to win the cricket World Cup as both player and coach . Later, he moved to coach in Zimbabwe 2000-2004. It 'was also a selector for the national Australian team.

Marsh continues the trend of Australians Sri Lanka coach, Dav Whatmore later, John Dyson, Tom Moody, Bayliss and the law.
